Château de Biron
A trip to Biron is a great day out. Just 45 minutes from Coulx you can explore French history with a guided audio tour in multiple languages.
There are often art installations at this Château and a visit to L’ Auberge du Château de Biron in the shadow of the old fortress to sample their ice cream is a great end to the day.
Château de Duras
A magnificent example of 12th Century architecture this Château rises from the hillside to take a commanding presence over Duras.
Be sure to see the birds of prey at the rear or even take in one of the superb concerts in the grounds.
A 30-minute drive from the Gite which takes you through Miramont (a great weekly market spot)
Château de Bonaguil
The winding walk from the river bed and car park up to the Château is very picturesque and filled with opportunities to sample some local delicacies.
When you reach the top (there is a car park by the main entrance for those less mobile) you find the imposing former home of Philippe III le Bold, King of France.
Well worth the hours trip from the Gite and the drive there takes you through some of the region’s best-known villages. A stop off at Monflanquin on route is a must. Whilst in the area you could also visit the Château at Fumel or Gavadun.
Château de Monbazillac
As wine tasking goes this is a magical place to visit and sample the vineyards delights.
Not far from Bergerac and therefore about 45 minutes from the Gite you can find this fairytale Château with an array of wines to try and a fantastically educational exhibition in its cellar to learn all about the act of winemaking
Chateau Le Stelsia
Alternatively, you could visit a very different kind of Château for lunch!
Le Stelsia is located just 5 minutes from Villeneuve-sur-lot (a beautiful riverside town to visit).
Its also home to Europe’s largest crazy golf!
If your travel plans take you a little further afield we can also recommend the following Châteaux to visit:
